This was the end. When I look back, I can remember the first week of this course. We finished a term together. First we didn’t have the lesson cinched because of technical problem. Everybody was in a jam because of the responsibilities of this course. However, we are at the end of the term.

I was a bit frightened and a bit confused. I think it was natural because we talked about computer and its programs all in all. Anyway we could start our lesson against the all odds. During the term, I had difficulties in pick lesson up and doing tasks. Sometimes I couldn’t attend the lesson. However, it is be undeniable reality that we learned lots of things which we can use in our ELT classrooms. I liked every tool but I don’t think that I will use some of them.

To sum up, this term was a good one, I think. We should thank to our teacher. Teacher “Thanks a lot for your labor and patient with us”.

12th WEEK

I couldn’t attend this week but I have to write reflection about the subject taught in lesson. The subject of this week was “weebly” used for creating website and “second life” (three dimension environment).

Firstly, I want to mention weebly. Weebly is used to create a free website.  You should visit http://www.weebly. Com. You should sign up first. Then it is easy to design your website. In the FrontPage, you write what this website services for. Then, you can add others pages. One of the features of this website is that you are limited to add pages.  There are many features which provide us easiness while we are creating our website. You can add your blog , questionnaire  for  your students or anyone, your communication tools like Facebook, twitter, etc. , YouTube videos. There are some columns on page that you drag on page and do what you want We can use it in future, it is good for making difference in education term. We can make our students create their own websites for portfolios or projects in an enjoyable way. It provide students a new, engaging way to express themselves, have fun while completing assignments they are given.
Secon topic is “second life”. People are called in two way today some are “digital immigrants” who meet with technology long after they were born and the others “ digital natives” who born with technology. We are at the middle of this definition. Today teachers can control their students on digital environment, with lack of noise, lack of boredom and in a stress-free environment according to me. We can see the benefit of second life there. I have heard it before but didn’t have much information about it.

This week we learned about audioboo which is a type of digital medya that you can upload and download the audios through computer and mobile devices. There are many websites offering podcasts. You are busy and you don’t have any time to listen the news. You can enter the website and listen the programme. Yet, the audio should be uploaded by the officers. You want supply listening sources to improve Sts’ listening skill, you can do it by these kind of podcasts. I think, these podcasts should be used for many educational purposes. Especially, it’s good for students to make a speaking and listening Project.  You can ask your Sts to record a story for speaking course. And you can also ask them to listen news and takes notes. I want to mention the point which I was disappointed. You can’t see the writing version of speaking. I think the only lacking of this tool is this. I like this tool  and I think I will use this in the future.

10th WEEK

This week we learned about digital story tools. We learned how we can make a digital story and how we can adopt it in our elt classrooms. Indeed, we are familiar with one of these tools. We made a digital story for another lesson. Firstly, you need a movie maker program in your computer. Then, you gather all pictures, videos, materials whatever you need. After you get all materials, you put them in the “movie maker” tool.  You order them in chronological order. You can add a text box and you can write your story text on the picture. You can also add music or you can record your voice while the pictures are changing. You can use this tool in your reading and listening courses. It is very difficult to encourage Sts to read sth about language by themselves. You may provide them extensive reading. They can improve their listening skills while they are listening story.

The other tool  is story jumper. If you want to use more fascinating one, you can use story jumper. It’s an online tool that makes creative writing fun for kids. This tool is very useful for students, kids. Students can create their own story books and publish them. They can also access stories. By using this tool, they can improve their writing skills and creavities. Let’s look at steps of making story jumper;

 Create from scratch, Add a scene, Add props,  Add text, Save your story, and Publish

This week I will talk about a subject which all of us familiar with. We learned computer mediated communication tools. These are MSN messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Google talk, Skype, Facebook, Twitter.  These are called social media. Facebook, Twitter and Skype are the most popular one. Let’s have a brief look at them. Facebook was founded by 2004 by Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg and originally called the Facebook. We get in touch with friends, family who are away, some other people in other countries. Facebook has 37 different language availability and it has the opportunity of publishing your advertisement sites, creating a group for a purpose, creating an event like, wedding news of our friends, a conference or concert which are l most across with, and finally pages that can be about anything you are interested. It is an exciting free social networking website that allows us to register, have an account, and upload videos, photos. On the other hands, there are disadvantages of Facebook. You can play games on Facebook but also you send request to your friends to play with you most of time lm bored and tired of rejecting all of them. Another point is there are respectful actually l call them harmful and unnecessary people that add you and message you. If we as teachers want to use it for education of course that would be useful in many ways. But it should be controlled and limited. We can create group for writing essays on a topic and make children more creative by encouraging them with feedbacks again on Facebook because it is more different than in front of blackboard. Twitter is actually the same with Facebook but real-time information network that connect us to the latest stories, ideas, opinions and news about what you find interesting. Each Tweet is 140 characters long, but don’t let the small size fool you—you can discover a lot in a little space. You can see photos, videos and conversations directly in Tweets to get the whole story at a glance, and all in one place. There are some signs that one of them is use the hash tag symbol “#” People use the hash tag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (no spaces) in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets and help them show more easily in Twitter Search. I don’t use Twitter. I don’t know but you said that you don’t need sth which you don’t know. I think you’re right J I don’t think I need it. Another one that l forget and was recalled by Mustafa is skype. as l said for others we can again  add friends, share our thoughts, celebrate birthdays, learn different languages, talk with friends with (the most important feature of its online video call). It is free and you can use it by logging in with your phone, computer or a tv with Skype program( l’ve learned yet and found interesting). But it has some other features by spending a little for it to use widely. We use it for doing homework or talking on an issue about a topic or sometimes because of the limited English input in Turkey we talk English with each other a few hours and l recommend you to do it. It is very useful. We can also use it in our teaching section in the future but again in a controlled way.

To sum up, we go to our bed and wake up with these communication tools nowadays.

8th WEEK

This week I didn’t go to school. But this doesn’t mean that I didn’t have responsibility to write reflection related to subject which were learned in the class. So now I am writing reflection related to last week subject, WiziQ .  I didn’t have any information about this subject but I looked for it a bit while I was surfing internet.  Let’s look at what WiziQ is and what it is used for.

 

WiziQ gives opportunity teachers and students to learn without coming together in a place or it is not a face to face education. It serves multi- cultural and multi-dimensional experience for both teacher and learners. You can learn from experts on a subject or ask question from there. You can get help for homework and the exiciting part of it, especially for foreign language learners to learn more about language. Another good side of it that is its having a whiteboard feature that when you write something everybody can see it and delete part it includes. Friends experienced it in class this week but l couldnt because of not having computer. You can also use the microphone but it is not necessary because you can see the toughts, writings from chat part but if you have audio you can talk too.

 

To sum up, you can easily reach information about what you need from experts.

 

7th WEEK

Today we learned  different  types of class. It were online classes called Nicenet and Dokeos.  These classes are open source learning management systems. They service for educational purpose.  Nicenet is a free discussion forum that can be used by all educators. It is a public classroom that many people create a topic, discuss about it, and reflect of their ideas. You can lots of things by using Nicenet. You can share your document with your Sts or your friends. You can conference about a special topic and you incorporate your Sts in your conference. You also can use Nicenet for personal purpose. You can send or receive messages from your friends. You can add link which you like.

 

And now let’s talk about  Dokeos.

 

Dokeos is an open source corporate learning suite with four components: AUTHOR to build e-learning content, LMS to handle interaction with learners, SHOP to sell a course catalog, and EVALUATE for assessment and certification. You can do lots of things as Nicenet. Let’s look at its advantages;
